I assure you, that joke makes sense with context. This would be a REALLY easy one to harp on historical inaccuracies with, even if not for the depiction of Rasputin as a zombie sorcerer. Like Pocahontas, it takes an actual and quite serious historical event and uses it to create a silly romance movie.
