It is down to the DM running the campaign as to what specific rules are used to govern the Reborn character. Reborn Features Again, it is essential to remember that Reborn is a situation driven by lineage rather than race. So many factors driving the character need to consider both the original race and how they were caused to make the transition beyond their demise. Enhancement of Ability Scores When building the Reborn from the ground up, as opposed to an in-campaign creation, you must adhere to the ability scores set down by lineage guidelines. Unlike races, lineages lack predefined ability score bonuses. Things get intriguing when you deal with a character transforming from an existing character into a Reborn. The core rules employ loose and unconventional wording. The Champion subclass now gets a free use of advantage every turn at level 15, while Battle Masters gain a free use of a Maneuver per turn at the same level. The popular Eldritch Knight subclass, which lets you learn a few Wizard spells along the way, also lets you swap an Extra Attack with a cantrip, mixing and matching swords and spells much like the Bladesinger Wizard. Great changes across the board. We also got to see a new Brawler subclass, for scrappy fighters proficient in unarmed strikes and improvised weapons chairs, candelabras, beer glasses.
After a tepid player response, though, it looks to have been cut. It also saw Ki Points reflavoured as Discipline Points, partially in an attempt to move the class beyond Asian stereotypes, while some low-rated features in 5E — like Tongue of the Sun and Moon, which let you understand all spoken languages — have been cut entirely to make way for more physically-enhanced abilities. The eighth playtest is where the Monk really came into its own, with the ability to deflect melee attacks as well, and greater freedom over Bonus Action abilities. Now, you can attack as a Bonus Action without having to attack with your Action — allowing much more flexibility in how you order and strategize your turn. A Shadow Monk, for instance, can now cast Darkness as an Action and then make numerous strikes with their Bonus Action, casting and punching in quick succession.
Even more crucially, the Monk can now Dash or Disengage as a Bonus Action for free, bringing it in line with the Rogue. This new version is certainly an improvement, if a little nondescript using fire versus cold damage is largely a matter of flavour, without mechanically distinct results , though we could see it developed further after player feedback. Smites, the damage-boosting spells previously unique to the class, were briefly offered to any class using the Divine spell list, but are now safely back as Paladin exclusives. The Find Steed spell is now a full-blown class feature, too, with variable steed abilities defined as Celestial, Fiend or Fey, and feels very flavourful — while the healing touch of Lay on Hands is now a bonus action, rather than an action. Like the Paladin, its spell preparation is limited to swapping out one spell per Long Rest, though this is still an improvement on the more static spell choices 5E Rangers had to use.
That currently includes ways to disarm, poison, trip, blind, daze or fully knock out opponents. The Thief subclass has also got explicit ceiling-clambering abilities, and the ability to use Magic Items as a bonus action. Heightened Spell, which gives an enemy disadvantage on a saving throw, is now easier to afford with your Spell Points. The other subclass choices are a little surprising. In playtest 7, the Warlock still has Pact Magic, a tight number of increasingly-powerful spell slots, and a Mystic Arcanum feature that lets you choose one specific spell per level for 6th Level spells and above.
So far, so 5E. If you liked, you could even access all three of the above pacts at the same time!
