The Chicago area is peppered with talented people and one of the latest to join this crowd is Robert Francis Goldthwait, tucked into a quiet and pleasant Western suburb. Whatever opinion you may have of him is likely based on some of the antics and sounds that have punctuated this long career and helped to define him. He has new work. He is writing.
Movies are in the early stages. I had been away from stand-up for some time and realized I missed it. I hope a listener, an audience, can sense that I am having fun.

The thing about Tales from the Crypt or Tales from the Darkside is your protagonist would always do something and deserve a comeuppance. I tried to stay away from that. I think that format becomes a little predictable.
Twilight Zone, the satire in some of those episodes are so great. I went back and watched some of my favorites before I started writing it. Which were your favorite Twilight Zones you went back to? The Maple Street one where the Martians come down. Did you write that before Louis C. When I did God Bless America, there was concern amongst some of the people making the movie that the violence that we were portraying was going to either motivate people, or that violence was going to reflect current events and make people upset.
It seems small compared to the size of homegrown terror that we have. But could you have ever anticipated years like 2016-17 when you made God Bless America?

I just hope that people are excited enough about the show that they watch week to week. Have you curated the order strategically? No, no, no, and they really are completely different.
Eventually, Goldthwait grew weary while he was on tour. At first, he attributed it to the club owners and DJs he met, but he soon realized the cause of his annoyance. Even when fans yelled out for him to "do the voice," Goldthwait stuck to his guns.
He was relieved when he finally just performed as himself. The next step was to move away from comedy totally for a while.
