The factions page has been given a visual overhaul. The medals awarded for faction and milestone progress have been improved. Expedition and Permadeath games will remain in their own pool for the purposes of matchmaking and base sharing. All other game modes have been unified so that players can explore together, whatever their difficulty preferences. An additional game mode has been added to this list, Relaxed mode.
Relaxed is the full Normal mode experience, but with significantly reduced need to manage survival systems and maintain technology and resources. Players wishing to make their existing games more challenging, or take advantage of the new Relaxed mode settings, can customise difficulty options from the pause menu at any time. The vast majority of difficulty settings can be tweaked at any time, in any mode. Some limited restrictions are imposed when wishing to play Permadeath. The ability to customise the speed at which life support and hazard protection are depleted. The amount of material yielded when mining and harvested. How fast the scanner recharges. Out of the current agents in the roster, only Gekko is the Initiator who can do this somewhat reliably. Between his recent buffs and the nerfs to Skye, Gekko is looking like a strong agent moving forward. His ability to continuously throw out, recover, and recharge utility will allow him to play the role alone throughout entire rounds. But in compositions that run double Controller and one Initiator, Gekko will most likely be the guy. The rest of the Initiators are getting an indirect buff and will most likely see more playtime. All of the other Initiators are viable, they just had lower pick rates due to the strength of Skye.
Preference may be a guiding factor of the best Initiators to pick going forward. Sova and Gekko do stick out as the two who will get the biggest boost out of the roster. Gekko does because he may be able to step in as a solo Initiator option. Meanwhile, Sova has always been strong but has been boxed out by Skye. The current map rotation is also favourable towards Sova with the return of Icebox and Breeze. The final aspect that makes Sova a good option is the rise of Cypher. He can destroy Cypher traps better than any other agent.
