Based on the aforementioned Academy Award-winning animated film, Aladdin made its world premiere to serious critical acclaim on Broadway back in 2014 and quickly established itself as one of the biggest new blockbusters in recent years.
Both critics and audiences have celebrated the musical as magical, exhilarating, and infectious, with extravagant staging and glittering costumes. The production has won a number of awards, including a Tony for James Monroe Iglehart, who played the Genie.
Overview The Broadway version of Aladdin is based on the 1992 Disney animated movie of the same name. The film was a smash hit with audiences and boasted music by Alan Menken with lyrics by Howard Ashman, Tim Rice, and Chad Beguelin, who also wrote the book.

Мой персонаж — однозначно отрицательный герой в этой сказке, но не просто вездесущее зло, которое выражается в каком-то проявлении, а он достигает своей поставленной цели разными способами. На самом деле, у меня почему злых персонажей получается играть лучше, чем добрых, потому что Джафар не раз демонстрирует открытую экспрессию. Кайф в том, что ты можешь позлиться как следует на кого-то. Происходящее на сцене буквально завораживало яркостью декораций и талантом актёров. Зрители с восторгом встретили обновлённый мюзикл старой доброй сказки и просили повторить ещё несколько раз его показ.

It was a powerful reminder of the depth of talent that Broadway harbors, often behind the scenes, just waiting for a moment to shine. The experience was made even more special as I shared it with two friends visiting from Australia. For them, this was their introduction to Broadway--a dazzling first impression that I suspect will linger with them for years to come. The combination of spellbinding choreography, iconic melodies, and the grandeur of the production left us all spellbound.
The musical expertly weaves together humor, romance, and adventure, keeping the audience engaged and invested from start to finish. Dean John-Wilson, however, is a likable, rough-hewn Aladdin; and Jade Ewen lends her Jasmine, refusing to be auctioned off to the highest bidder, a touch of fire. But I enjoyed the villains even more. Don Gallagher as the scheming vizier, who hatches evil plans with his little finger crooked and never exits without a manic cackle, is camp of the highest order; and Peter Howe as his minute, curly-haired accomplice, Iago, reminded me of a sinister Charlie Drake. Whenever they were on stage, I was happily transported back to Palladium pantos long ago.

Прямые включения актёров-корреспондентов из зала только добавляли ощущения, что постановка идёт не на далёких театральных подмостках, а действие происходит среди зрителей. Артисты, что выходили на сцену более ста раз, старались доставить зрителю ещё больше эмоций своей игрой. Джинни улетел в свою волшебную страну, но кто сказал, что это конец? Мечты сбываются, стоит только поверить, ведь «ковёр-самолёт от забот унесёт на Восток, куда сказка зовёт».
