Revit 2024 – What’s New
Sheets are automatically arranged in a grid layout based on their size. This feature is very useful when working with other teams or consultants using different versions of Revit. Textures View Style Revit has a new view style called Textures. I was in the beta user group for this one. It is a cross between shaded and realistic. It is possible to have ambient and sun shadows on in this mode as shown in the examples below.

Site tools Looking at the massing and site tab below, you will notice a lot has changed. The site tools represent the most significant change in Revit 2024 for architects, which is both exciting and a little scary!
We now have a toposolid command rather than a toposurface. As the name change implies, the ground is now represented by solid geometry rather than a 2D surface. This is the exciting part. Missing from the ribbon below is the building pad command, which is the scary part — I will explain this in the next section. Figure 24.
Comparing Revit 2024 site tools to previous versions. Toposolid Replaces Toposurface Although the toposurface and building pads are no longer available, they are preserved when a model is updated to Revit 2024. Those elements can be modified and copied. You just cannot create new instances as the commands are gone. Figure 25 shows a toposurface and building pad after an initial model upgrade.

The rest of the colors can be customized in each theme using RGB colors. Add Multiple Views and Schedules You have always been able to drag one view from Project Browser to a Sheet, but now Revit has added the ability to do multiple at a time. Once you have all the views selected, you can drag them into the sheet. You can also do this from the View tab by selecting the View icon, which will open a window that will also allow you to select multiple views at a time. Both of these buttons have an arrow for additional options.
These options have been available in a project file for annotation items and work the same as they do in the. This is a great feature for those who are having to manage Revit and IFC exports. Once the mapping for the components is set up, there is an option in IFC Export to select the entities to export.
Create revision cloud schedules to better review and manage all the revision clouds in your project, and see which view or sheet they belong to. This way, you can easily see each revision in your project and make modifications, or directly edit the schedule fields if necessary. Link Coordination Models Visually cross-check between models of various disciplines and phases of a project. In 3D views, visually compare collaboration models created in Revit or other modeling tools for coordination purposes.
With improved search functionality that accounts for typographical errors and provides more relevant results, designers can quickly locate the specific nodes and packages they require, thereby saving time. This version also introduces enhanced package node identification and a more refined Python editor experience, among other upgrades. Revit Home Tech Preview and Dark Theme for Schedules The new Revit Home, currently in Tech Preview, introduces better navigation within Revit, while the dark theme for schedules and improved color conversion contribute to a user experience that is more consistent, comfortable, and conducive to extended work sessions. This early-stage design tool supports critical decisions regarding solar panel placement and window orientation.

Hopefully, we will get a better tool in the future. You can find the Sun settings in the ribbon on the right side. The settings dialog still looks the same as the earlier Revit versions, a minor improvement has been made to the Time Interval feature, which now offers additional increments. Revit now offers intervals of 15, 30, 45, and 60 seconds, which allows you to analyze shadows with greater accuracy. In addition, you can drag the Sun along its path in Perspective mode instead of using the Orthographic mode. These models are lightweight and elements can be selected. You can read out the information from the selected element in the Properties Browser. One of the main benefits is the capability to link models from previous versions of Revit without upgrading them. This feature is very useful when collaborating with other stakeholders who are working with older model versions. Once you have linked Coordination Models, you can manage these files in the Coordination Model tab located in the Manage Links menu. As you can see in the example below, every surface of the floor has been aligned individually with the same pattern. To reset the pattern, you can use the Entire Surface again. This style can be described as a hybrid mode between Consistent Colors and Realistic.

I tested the redesigned user interface, site tools, visual styles, analytical views, and linked models from previous versions in a 2024 project. A single template file for all the disciplines. The new sample model, Snowdon Towers, is a mixed-use development that includes residential, commercial and retail space. The model is highly detailed and demonstrates best practices for modeling, documentation, and collaboration. It includes seven linked models, phasing and design options , and a detailed site model created with the enhanced tools from this release.

The TopoSolid tool allows you to create site elements that have depth and thickness, unlike the TopoSurface tool, which only created flat surfaces. The TopoSolid tool works similarly to the floor tool.
This was mainly because it needed more options and capabilities in other system families. However, with the release of Revit 2024, a new feature called Toposolids, which harnesses all the capabilities of a system family, has been introduced. Toposolids can now have layers with thickness and materials similar to other system families. Currently, voids can be used to cut out sections of Toposolids. However, a more efficient tool is expected to be developed to handle cuts in Toposolids. Families can now be hosted on Toposolids, including floor-based families and railings, which can be helpful in various projects. Our team is eagerly waiting for this feature to be fully developed. By holding down the CTRL key, choose the necessary views, including model views, schedules, legends, and drafting views, then drag them onto a sheet. Alternatively, utilize the Add Views to Sheet tool in the View ribbon tab, select multiple views, click OK, and promptly place them on the sheet. While not headline-worthy, this feature is a time-saving convenience, sparing users from the tedious task of dragging and dropping views onto sheets individually.
