They all utilize a hopper loading system, which not only increases ammo capacity but also means that reloading is as simple as opening a hatch and pouring new balls in. The compact Hera lacks a hopper feeding system, but its use of standard Rival magazines means that ammo storage and reloading are still quite easy to deal with. The Charger on the other hand uses a 12 round internal magazine.
It cycles through its ammo reserve flawlessly and with the same power and accuracy of all of the other recent Nerf Rival series blasters. And most importantly? It is pretty fun. Without chrono-graphing it, I can say the power does feel normal for a Rival blaster. The accuracy of the blue balls seems top notch as well. I lost most of them already, but they seemed good when I had them. Overall, I really have no complaints with the performance of the Nerf Rival Forerunner. But, the way this blaster is designed, specifically the pump grip area, when I fire it up at shoulder or eye level for too long, my wrist gets strained. The way my wrist is bent while holding the grip forces it to flex in an unnatural way for me. Pump this grip definitely gives me some fatigue in my wrist after a while. I feel like this blaster was really meant to be fired from the hip, Hollywood style. Do you fire it from the hip, Hollywood style, or do you like to get a little tactical and actually aim the thing? It hits like a truck, it shoots just as hard as any other Rival blaster, the rest is up to you. Before the Forerunner, I mentioned a lot of other blasters because they all function the same internally. The Saturn only had a 10 round capacity, while the Takedown had 8 rounds. Much like the in-game Reaper, the velocity at which the rounds are fired is impressively fast and this Nerf has a long range. Thankfully, Hasbro has implemented a trigger lock system that can help prevent any misfires. When fully armed, donning the mask just elicits a feeling of being badass though it does get hot behind the mask really fast. The adjustable elastic strap helps ensure the right fit for almost everybody, and your vision is not affected while behind the mask. While we would love to engage in day-long battles and looking as close to the real deal as possible, the eventual stuffiness and heat will get to you.

Now, however, Nerf is intentionally allowing players to curve their shots with its new line of Rival blasters. Nerf unveiled the Rival lineup back in 2015 when it introduced its new form of ammo. Instead of foam darts, the Rival blasters shoot small foam balls with golf-ball style dimples on the outer surface.
Air flowing over those dimples can have a pronounced effect on the trajectory of a ball as it flies through the air. The resulting lift effect—called hop-up—will cause the round to stay in the air longer than it would without spin while traveling the same speed. All of them allow players to rotate the barrel and adjust the position of that ridge.

And if you want to survive, you better learn to pull the trigger! Pretty nifty. These are supposed to be better, more accurate rounds for Rival blasters and they do indeed look different, with a blue color and noticeably different dimpling on the surface of the round. First up, the safety orange muzzle. The muzzle on the Forerunner is standard. Moving back from that, we find a surprisingly beefy pump grip, complete with hand stops and finger grooves. This front sight, of course, corresponds with the rear ABS sight. The rear sight on the Forerunner is has elevation adjustment, but no windage adjustment. But more on that later.
It fits my hand perfectly. The trigger is comfortable and I have no complaints here. The trigger guard is large and roomy and never restricts movement. Just above the trigger is the safety switch, flipping it will block the trigger and prevent you from shooting the blaster. On the opposite side of the blaster is another functional switch; the jam-clearing button. If your Nerf Rival Forerunner ever jams, this little orange guy will be your best friend. Forerunner of Great Aesthetics? The Nerf Rival Forerunner has a great, tacti-cool look to it that really makes you want to grab it and pick it up.

If you want to use them in serious competitive play, though, good luck. The Nerf Rival wants to change that. Sporting a redesigned blaster and ammo, the new system allows players to shoot their projectiles in a straight line at speeds of up to 70 mph.
Traditional Nerf Dart Blasters For many years, foam darts and discs were the only options for Nerf guns. When Rival was introduced in 2015, finding the best blaster became more difficult. So what is the difference between Nerf Rival and traditional dart blasters? The HIRs are made of a slightly heavier plastic material than the foam balls, which gives them more power. They also have an aerodynamic shape which helps them fly further distances more accurately and they can hurt if hit by them at a close range. Three unique features about the HIRs: Rival Rounds are more accurate and travel father because of the pores on their surface. These pores create turbulent air around the ball which then increases aerodynamics and reduces friction.
They are heavy enough to travel long distances, pack a punch, and yet still not be dangerous.
