Stuber has secured financing for this new endeavor, which will focus on making TV shows and movies, according to Bloomberg, which first reported the news of Stuber’s departure.

Netflix So as Hollywood studios began to launch their own competing streaming services, and take their films off Netflix, the company has had to beef up its originals to satisfy subscribers and gain new ones. Those include independent films, documentaries, comedies, non-English-language titles, and blockbusters. All these divisions are headed by different people with Stuber overseeing it all, like a studio chairman at one of the traditional studios. He was clear about the targets we needed to hit to get the movie green-lit, and then helped us cast our two actors, playing a crucial role with Anthony Hopkins, since they had worked together in the past. The theatrical run by "Roma" last year was a big step forward in smoothing out the rocky relationship Netflix has had with the exhibition scene. Stuber spent a lot of 2017 making the rounds to the major theater chains and trying to build some kind of relationship, according to a source within Netflix.
That led to independently owned theaters like Landmark and Alamo Drafthouse showing more Netflix titles. The rift has been kept open by the fact that Netflix will not respect the exclusive 72-day theatrical window. This has caused the three biggest chains in the country — AMC, Regal, and Cinemark — to refuse to play Netflix movies. Still, Stuber has made headway. But talks stalled over how short the exclusive window would be the chains wanted 60 days; Netflix wanted 45.
What changed? Stuber believes the director is only trying to "make sure that whatever these new distribution models are, at the core they are trying to protect the movie business". He adds: "I wish that Friday night at the movies was still as important as it was when I was 19. Some claim Netflix and its streamer competitors are killing cinema by not giving movies enough of a platform in cinemas before launching them onto their services.
Cumberbatch has previously criticised Netflix for the short theatrical window it gave The Power of the Dog, just a few weeks exclusively in cinemas before it launched on Netflix. He told Vanity Fair he questioned whether he was "working for the Goliath that is killing David". With theaters closed, people were more and more reliant on streaming. The industry moved forward a decade in a matter of months. While theaters were closed, Netflix released over 70 movies, with more to come. While some were of higher quality than others, Stuber has helped them have at least one prestige movie a year, allowing them to win Academy Awards, though no best pictures... What sets Netflix apart from all other studios is that it is not beholden to the box office.
New Tab , opens new tab said on Monday that Scott Stuber, head of films, will leave the streaming service pioneer in March to start his own media company.
No replacement was identified. Stuber, who joined the company in 2017 to expand its slate of original films, was named the chairman of Netflix Film in January 2023.
